Tooth Extractions in Woodstock, IL
Serving McHenry, Marengo, Harvard, IL and Surrounding Areas
A dental extraction (also referred to as exodontia) is the removal of a tooth from the mouth. Extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons, including tooth decay that has destroyed enough tooth structure to prevent restoration. Extractions of impacted or problematic wisdom teeth are routinely performed, as are extractions of some permanent teeth to make space for orthodontic treatment.
How many different types of Dental Extraction?
Simple extractions are performed on teeth that are visible in the mouth. They are teeth that are fully erupted or almost fully erupted. This procedure is done under local anesthetic. Patients also have the option of using nitrous oxide (laughing gas) during an extraction procedure.
Surgical extractions involve the removal of teeth that cannot be easily accessed, either because they have broken under the gum line or because they have not erupted fully. In our office, this procedure is also done using local anesthetic. Patients also have the option of using nitrous oxide (laughing gas) during an extraction procedure.
Family Dentistry of Woodstock is experienced in simple and surgical extractions, wisdom teeth extractions and extraction of children’s baby teeth.
